YOUNGSTOWN
An extreme off-road driving video shot at an abandoned former mill site on the East Side, and at other locations in the region, will premiere today on UTVunderground.com.
The video is the third in a series starring professional off-road driver RJ Anderson of California in a modified Polaris XP1K3 RZR, an all-terrain utility vehicle designed for speed and agility.
It was shot last month by Mad Media, a film production company owned by Josh and Matt Martelli of San Diego.
The Martellis created an array of massive man-made obstacles at a half-dozen locations in and around Youngstown. They chose to use the decay of abandoned steel mills, old factories and train yards as the backdrop to showcase Anderson’s driver control and stunts.
“Youngstown offered a perfect atmosphere for this project,” said Josh Martelli. who noted that post- industrial sites were a great place to demonstrate the scale and risk involved in the stunts.
The XP1K3 film series has accrued more than 16 million video views across YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, and has been watched in more than 70 countries, according to a news release.
The video shot in Youngstown, which is several minutes long, debuted over the weekend at the Camp RZR West event in Glamis, Calif. To see all of the videos in the XP1K3 series, go to XP1K3.com.
