Phantoms rebound with eight-goal stampede

Staff report

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.

Yusihiroh Hirano scored two goals to help the Youngstown Phantoms roll to Saturday’s 8-3 victory over the Sioux Falls Stampede.

Also scoring for the Phantoms were Kris Myllari, James Winkler, Alex Esposito, Cameron Morrison, Patrick Kramer and Connor Moore.

Chase Pearson assisted on three goals.

Goaltender Ryan Bednard made 28 saves.

The Phantoms scored once on three power-play chances.

The Phantoms split their weekend series after losing to the Stampede, 4-3, on Friday. In that game, the Phantoms twice rallied to tie the game.

“Very happy with the effort tonight, I thought the guys played hard,” Phantoms Head Coach John Wroblewski said. “Goaltender Colin] DeAugustine was awesome in net as usual.

“We gave up two goals after power plays which was a huge negative we need to correct,” Wroblewski said. “We need to stop more of their attacks in the defensive zonet. We afforded them way too many opportunities tonight. We need to be more detailed on the puck going forward,”

The Phantoms killed off the one power-play chance the Stampede had on Saturday.

Next weekend, the Phantoms will play the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday and Sunday at the Covelli Centre.
