Doctorate
Maureen E. Riley-Behringer, formerly of Youngstown, earned her doctor of philosophy degree from Case Western Reserve University on May 17.
She studied the effects of prenatal risk and early life care on behavioral problems. She will continue research on self-regulation and modulation of physiological stress response in 6- to 7-year-old children of inter-country adoption.
Riley-Behringer earned a bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University and a master’s degree in social administration from Case. She is a graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School.
DOCTORS
Laine Alexa Vicarel, daughter of John and Sandy Vicarel of Boardman, earned her doctor of pharmacy degree from the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Toledo on May 9.
Dr. Vicarel has accepted a PGY1 residency position at Akron General Medical Center in Akron. She received her bachelor’s degree and pharmaceutical sciences degree in 2013, also from the University of Toledo, in which she graduated magna cum laude. She is a 2008 graduate of Boardman High School.
She is the granddaughter of Michael Lacivita and Fred and Rita Vicarel.
Brad William Schneider graduated from received his doctor of medicine degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown on May 16.
Dr. Schneider, of North Lima, attended South Range High School before attending NEOMED’s six-year combined B.S./M.D. program. He received his bachelor’s degree in natural sciences from the University of Akron, graduating summa cum laude. He is the son of Dr. William Schneider and Natali Schneider of North Lima.
He will begin his family-medicine residency at Heritage Valley Health System in Beaver, Pa., in July. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Schneider plans to enter into a combined practice with his father in Warren, where he will focus on integrative family medicine.
Three Youngstown-area residents were among the students who received a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens on May 9.
The three were Ann K. Dombroski of Salem and Youngstown; Mark T. Kolich of Salem; and Maria C. Sember of Warren.
Dr. Dombroski earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Hiram College in 2010, and is a 2006 graduate of Salem High School. After graduation, she will begin a residency in emergency medicine at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
Dr. Kolich, the son of Margie and Mike Kolich of Salem, earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Kent State University in 2009, and is a 2005 graduate of Salem High School. After graduation, he will begin a residency in orthopedic surgery at Affinity Medical Center in Massillon.
Dr. Sember, the daughter of Michael Sember Jr. and Barb Sember of Warren, earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Hiram College in 2010. She is a 2006 graduate of Howland High School. After graduation, Dr. Sember will begin a residency in emergency medicine at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
Alexander Pendleton Swick of Canfield graduated May 10 from the Ohio State University School of Pharmacy with a doctor of pharmacy degree.
Dr. Swick is a 2007 graduate of Canfield High School. He has accepted a position with Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
He and his wife, the former Jackie Boris of Canfield, live in Columbus.
