YOUNGSTOWN

Police say they are concerned about a 78-year-old woman who has been missing from her Katherine Street home.

Detective Sgt. Darryl Martin said the daughter of Corrine Lawson, who lives with her, last saw her May 14, but she was not reported as missing until Thursday by another relative who is 90.

Martin said that Lawson also has not shown up for her part-time job at a local funeral home, and members of her church also are concerned about her because she has not been seen there.

Martin said relatives and friends of Lawson he has talked to told him that it would be unusual for her to go somewhere and not tell anyone.

“They said it’s not like her to go somewhere and not tell anyone,” Martin said.

Martin said Lawson does have relatives in the South, but the daughter did not know where those relatives live.

He said a search warrant was served at the East Side home Thursday, but there were no signs of foul play. But because of the descriptions of Lawson by her friends, he is worried about where she might be.

“It’s not looking normal because she didn’t tell anybody,” Martin said.

Additionally, Lawson’s car is broken down and still in her drive, Martin said.

Lawson’s daughter is Sheila Lawson, a former municipal court administrator and FBI agent who was arrested and accused of beating her father in March 2012. She had served as court administrator from December 2008 to March 2009, when she was fired.

Sheila Lawson was convicted in September 2012 by a jury on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence and intimidation. She appealed the verdict to the 7th District Court of Appeals, which ruled against her in March. While she appealed the verdict, the sentence against her was stayed.

When the appeal was denied, the case was rescheduled for sentencing. Lawson was given a 100-day suspended jail sentence, fines and court costs and six months’ probation, which included required anger-management counseling and an evaluation at Turning Point counseling center.

Sheila Lawson, however, violated the terms of her sentence, and a visiting judge ordered her to start serving her sentence in December 2014. She was released by the judge in January and ordered to undergo the remainder of her sentence under house arrest.
