YPD searches for downtown bank robber

Police continue their search for a man who robbed a downtown bank early Friday afternoon.
Officers, U.S. marshals and deputies from the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office searched the streets around the Huntington Bank on Market Street after a man came in about 1:40 p.m. Friday and managed to get away with some money.
Youngstown police Detective Sgt. D.P. Scott would not say how much the man took or how he got away. Scott said the robber did not show a weapon but instead passed a threatening note to a bank teller.
No one was injured, and the bank was closed immediately after the robbery as investigators talked with employees and patrons and also collected evidence.
The robbery happened in the middle of the department’s staggered shift change in the patrol division from the morning to afternoon shift. Because of that, there were extra officers patrolling the downtown looking for the robber.
Scott said still photos of the suspect were downloaded quickly from the bank’s security system and emailed to the computers in the cruisers of city officers as well as to U.S. marshals, deputies and the Youngstown State University police.
As Scott was inside the bank, Detective Sgt. Tom Parry was looking at footage from other cameras in that area of the downtown to see if they could get more information on where the robber went.
The robber is described as a black male in his late 30s to late 40s, about 6 feet tall, bald, and wearing a black T-shirt.
Anyone with information can call 911 or the detective bureau at 330-742-8911.
