Connor, Letunov make USHL teams

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown Phantoms forwards Kyle Connor and Max Letunov received USHL honors on Thursday.

Connor was named to the All-USHL First Team while Letunov was named to the Second Team. The pair were instrumental to the success of the Phantoms this season, combining for 144 points (59 goals, 85 assists), and helping lead the team to its first Anderson Cup, which is presented to the USHL regular season champion.

Letunov set career highs in both goals (25), assists (39), and points (64) this season, and he saw a 21-point improvement from a season ago.

The Moscow native was a consistent offensive force all season long for the Phantoms, recording points in 42 of his 58 games played. He posted point streaks of four games or more on five separate occasions, including a career-high 11-game point streak from Feb. 8-March 20, accounting for eight goals and nine assists.

Connor, who will play for the University of Michigan this fall, is expected to be a first-round selection in next month’s NHL Draft.

Letunov was drafted by the St. Blues last June. His rights were traded to the Arizona Coyotes in March. This fall, he’ll play for Boston University.

Bowditch enjoys career-best round

IRVING, Texas

Steven Bowditch matched his career best with an 8-under 62 in the AT&T Byron Nelson, leaving Jordan Spieth seven strokes back in the Masters champion’s hometown event.

Bowditch, the Australian also playing close to his home in the Dallas suburbs, made three putts of at least 24 feet while shooting a 30 on the front nine at TPC Four Seasons Resort.

Another Texan, Jimmy Walker, was second after a 64. He won the Sony Open in Hawaii in January and the Texas Open in March in San Antonio.

Spieth opened with a birdie but missed two short chances late and settled for a 69.
