City man robbed, shot as he walked to the store


YOUNGSTOWN — A 19-year-old city man told police he was shot in the leg and thigh early Thursday morning as he walked to a gas station to buy cigarettes.

The man told police who were called to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital about 4:45 a.m. that several men, one of them holding a gun, approached him in a car while he was on Mount Vernon Avenue.

The victim said he gave the group $120 and tried to knock the gun out of the man's hands before he ran away. When he reached his home in the 2300 block of Buckeye Circle he discovered he was shot, reports said. His mother drove him to the hospital
