Fifty-four teams of professional bass anglers and their amateur partners compete for cash and prizes on Evans and Pine lakes Saturday during the 16th annual Muransky Companies Bass Classic, hosted by lake owners Aqua Ohio and benefiting the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.
The competition pairs pro bass anglers with amateur fishermen who make a donation to the local United Way. Prizes are awarded for total weight and biggest bass after the tournament weigh-in at about 2:30 p.m.
While the fisherman are on the water, kids are invited to the Fin Feather Fur Fish and Fun event from 10 to 1 p.m. at Evans Lake on East Calla Road near Poland. The first 200 children 12 and under will receive food, goodie bags and a gift donated by Fin Feather Fur Outfitters.
Burglary investigation

Police arrested a township man on a warrant after officers stopped him near the site of a burglary.
Kevin Cartwright, 27, of Carter Circle, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant from Struthers on a probation violation stemming from an original charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police responded to apartments at Carter Circle late Wednesday for a call about a burglary in progress. Police found Cartwright near the scene, acting suspicious, according to a police report.
They also found a screwdriver, a lock punch and a knife in his possession.
Doors to two apartments reportedly had pry marks near the locks, and one apartment was ransacked, with medication missing, according to the report.
Cartwright was transported to the Struthers Police Department. Township police are investigating the burglary attempt.
Contract extended
AUSTINTOWN
Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities approved the extension of its employee health-care insurance contract with United Healthcare indefinitely while the board explores options that include good coverage at an affordable, sustainable cost, said William Whitacre, superintendent.
During a special meeting Wednesday, the board approved the extension, effective Monday, the renewal date for the United Healthcare contract. The extension was recommended by Whitacre and the board’s health insurance committee.
The board felt it did not have enough information to make a decision and extended the contract to have more time to look at other possible avenues, Whitacre said.
