Warren police officer shoots man, investigation underway

WARREN — Lt. Jeff Cole of the Warren Police Department plans to release information later today on a man being shot by a police officer at 1104 Harrison St. Northeast Wednesday night.

A Warren police report released this morning only says police were called to the house at 11:32 p.m. for an assault by a live-in boyfriend and that the boyfriend left the home in a pickup truck.

No identifying information on the suspect was given in the report.

The man returned at 11:45 p.m., however, while ambulance personnel were at the house and the man was now holding a child at gunpoint, according to police radio traffic.

The man was also described as having a shotgun and having fired “a couple rounds when approached.”

An officer then reported taking cover behind a tree in the house’s front yard. The suspect was detained two minutes later, at 11:48 p.m., with at least one gunshot wound, later described as possibly “a couple shots in the arm.”

The suspect was taken by ambulance to the hospital at 12:07 a.m.
