Poll: Kasich still lagging with potential voters for GOP prez nod

COLUMBUS — Gov. John Kasich still isn't registering much with voters considering a lengthy list of potential GOP presidential contenders in 2016.

But his budding campaign may have just enough support to make the cut for a scheduled August Republican primary debate in Cleveland.

That's according to the results of a new Quinnipiac University Poll, released today and involving more than 1,700 registered voters nationwide, including 679 Republicans and 748 Democrats.

Five candidates topped the latest survey, with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and neurosurgeon Ben Carson each receiving 10 percent.

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul snagged 7 percent, followed by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz received (6 percent), Donald Trump (5 percent) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (4 percent).

Kasich and Carly Fiorina, former Hewlett Packard chief executive, tied with 2 percent.

With a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points, that means there's no real frontrunner in the race yet.
