No vote on 911 move

WARREN

City Council did not decide whether to turn over city police dispatching to the Trumbull County 911 operation Wednesday night, instead tabling the question for later.

Finance Committee Chairman Eddie Colbert said Tuesday he expected the matter to come to a vote at Wednesday’s meeting, but Councilman Al Novak said Tuesday he would vote no because he still wasn’t comfortable with the answers he had received regarding what dispatching facility would serve as backup to the county once Warren’s center was closed.

Woman hit in shooting

YOUNGSTOWN

A woman was wounded in the shoulder after a drive-by shooting Wednesday evening on the city’s South Side.

Youngstown police said six shell casings were found around 6 p.m. at Potomac and Judson avenues after the shooting.

A woman was transported to a hospital for a shoulder wound and a male had a bullet graze his leg.

He refused medical attention at the scene.

The car used in the shooting was later recovered, unoccupied, at a different location and was towed by police.

Shell casings were found in the car, linking it to the shooting.

Trial delayed one week

YOUNGSTOWN

The aggravated-murder trial of Kalontae Carter, 19, in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, has been delayed for a week.

Carter asked Judge Lou D’Apolito on Tuesday, the day jury selection was to have started, for more time because he said he did not receive certain materials from his defense attorney, although his attorney has reviewed the case with him.

Judge D’Apolito originally granted Carter just an extra day, but on Wednesday he stretched that to a week.

Carter is accused in the death of Kristopher Stuart, 26, on Elm Street in April 2013.
