Three men facing charges for a West Side home invasion have entered guilty pleas to counts of aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery.
Prosecutors in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court are recommending sentences of six years each for Dwaylyn Nadal, 29,; Sterling Owens, 24; and Derek Royal, also 24.
They are accused of forcing their way into a home in the 100 block of South Schenley Avenue about 1:10 a.m. Aug. 7.
Sentencing will take place at 9 a.m. Monday before Judge Maureen Sweeney.
When officers arrived, they found one of the home’s occupants on the roof, telling officers there were men inside with guns.
Police moved to surround the house, and one officer spotted a back door slightly ajar and heard someone say the cops were there and close the door, reports said.
Another person tried to leave through a window, but saw police and pulled back inside.
Two men then came out of the back door and told police there were three men inside with guns.
A police dog was called, and officers went inside to check the home.
When they announced they had a dog, Owens surrendered to police.
Royal was found in the kitchen, and Nadal was found in the dining room.
Police found a semiautomatic handgun under a couch cushion and a revolver behind the china closet where Nadal was standing.
One man who was inside the house fled to the roof, reports said.
The man on the roof told police he was watching television when he heard someone ask, “Where is the weed?” and when he heard it again, he ran out onto the roof. Reports stated the witness refused to talk further.
Owens talked with his attorney for more than 90 minutes before he agreed to the plea bargain. Royal and Nadal gave their pleas earlier.
