Lordstown council to vote tonight on power plant incentive package

LORDSTOWN — Village council will vote tonight on an incentive package for a Boston company planning to bring an $800 million natural-gas fueled power plant to a Salt Springs Road location.

Lordstown Mayor Arno Hill said today the company, Clean Energy Future LLC, will be given a 100 percent, 15-year tax abatement on the real and personal, tangible property, after council and the Trumbull County Commissioners approve the package.

In return for the abatement, the Lordstown School District will receive $1 million a year for the first five years the plant is in operation; $1.25 million for the next five years; and $1.5 million for the five years after that.

Once the plant is under construction there will be three $500,000 payments made to the school district for the three years it will take to build the plant.

The village will collect income tax from the project, Hill said.

The land for the new plant is at 1107 Salt Springs Road, site of the former Peterson Hardware, and is a mile east of state Route 45.
