Green firefighters probe house blaze; body found nearby

A Green Township house fire from 11:58 p.m. Friday remains under investigation.

Green Township Fire Chief Todd Baird said a person was found dead in an adjacent building next to the house at 12955 Lisbon Road, and a dog died in the fire.

The back of the house was engulfed when fire crews arrived, and so was a car 25 feet away from the house. Six other fire departments were called for help: Canfield, Beaver Township, Leetonia, Damascus, Perry Township and Columbiana.

The house is considered a total loss.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s office could not be reached Monday for further details.

Recycle electronics

YOUNGSTOWN

Vallourec is sponsoring an electronics recycling drive from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the Covelli Center, 229 E. Front St.

Items that will be accepted include TVs, VCRs, computers, monitors, stereos, cellphones, printers and more. One TV or monitor will be accepted free; all others items are free.

This event is funded by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and is for Youngstown residents only.

Johnston road closure

JOHNSTON

Corinth Court Road between state Route 5 and Davis Peck Road Bridge in Johnston Township will be closed next Monday for soil borings, the Trumbull County engineer announced.

The recommended detour route is west on Fisher Corinth Road, north on state Route 193, east on Davis Peck Road and south on Corinth Court.

‘Pawcasso’ painting set at festival for dogs

GIRARD

St. Francis Pet Care is hosting its third annual Bark in the Park Dog Fun Festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 6 at Stambaugh Park, Mosier Road. In case of rain, the date will be moved to June 13.

Several easy activities for all breeds of dogs will be offered, including pawcasso pack painting, bubble boogie, agility, a pet parade, pooch portraits, a bone hunt, a dog and pet parent look-alike contest, a musical hoop hop, holistic pet-care products, canine games, a fashion show, hot-doggie dunking and a pet blessing.

There also will be free frozen doggie yogurt. Proceeds will go to St. Francis Cadets for Pets Children’s Program.
