Youngstown Fire Department investigates weekend fires

YOUNGSTOWN

Two fires from over the weekend remain under investigation.

Youngstown fire crews were sent at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday to a home at 1523 McGuffey Road for an occupied structure fire.

The fire was confined to the first floor dining area, kitchen and rear porch area. The fire did burn a hole through the ceiling of the dining area.

The occupant of the house ran out with the family dog after the fire was spotted. No one was injured.

At 1:19 a.m. Saturday, fire crews went to Gateway Gas Mart at 1231 Market St. for a small fire burning by one of the pumps. Fire personnel discovered it was a gas can burning. It was extinguished with an extinguisher, and then multiple pour patterns were found around the building. The owners of the business were notified, and arson investigators were contacted.
