Here are some other genealogy programs being offered by the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. To register, call 330-744-8636. Tim Seman, genealogy and local history librarian, will be on hand to answer any questions concerning resources and the research process. All programs are for adults and run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., unless otherwise specified:

Research Guide for Jewish Genealogy: June 9, Austintown Library meeting room.

Reconnoitering Military Records for Family History: June 22, Sebring Historical Society, 126 N. 15th St.

Explore the records of our armed forces and bring greater meaning to your family tree. Learn how to pursue personnel files and unit histories to understand your ancestors’ role in defending our nation’s heritage.

Preserving Your Family History Treasures: July 15, Boardman Library meeting room.

An introduction to preservation and conservation issues relevant to the genealogist. This program will cover basic care, storage and handling techniques; repairing and reformatting; technology migration; disaster response; and legacy planning.

Over There: Resources and Strategies for Finding Foreign Records: July 21, Austintown Library meeting room.

The program will examine resources that help the genealogist find and acquire records that are kept overseas.

Mid-Week Genealogy Crush, Aug. 5, (repeated Aug. 12): Main Library meeting room.

Participants are invited to seek solutions for their genealogical research problems. This program serves as a springboard for attendance at regular 1-4 p.m. Thursday help sessions with experienced genealogy volunteers that help people solve genealogical puzzles at Main Library.

Allied Victory, 70 Years On: Sept. 16, Poland Library meeting room.

The high price of victory will be apparent as Americans commemorate the end of World War II and explore the records of their armed forces. The program will pursue personnel files and unit histories to understand our ancestors’ role in defending the nation’s heritage.

Emancipation Day Celebration: African-American Genealogy: Sept. 22, Austintown Library meeting room.

Will Cemeteries Die? The Future of Burial Rites: Oct. 27, Austintown Library meeting room.

Are cemeteries a permanent part of the landscape in family history research? During the 21st century, it is likely that dwindling land availability, environmental concerns, the surge in non-burial options and the availability of new technologies all will lead to significant changes in death rituals. The program will examine what this means for genealogy.

Research Guide for Native American Genealogy: Nov. 19, Poland Library meeting room.

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, the program will survey the resources available for Native American genealogical research in library collections and beyond.

Year-End Genealogy Review: Dec. 10, Main Library meeting room.
