DOCTORS
Osteopathic degree
Anthony Berdis of Austintown has earned a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The son of Ron and Kim Berdis, Dr. Berdis earned a bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University and is a 2006 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. After graduation, Dr. Berdis will begin a residency in orthopedic surgery.
Cincinnati graduate
Lauren Suzanne Chiec, daughter of John and Susan Chiec of Girard, recently graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine with a doctorate in medicine.
She will specialize in internal medicine and will begin her residency in June at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in Chicago, with plans to pursue a fellowship in hematology and oncology.
In medical school, Dr. Chiec was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Akron in 2011 with a degree in biology. She is a 2007 graduate of Girard High School and was valedictorian.
Dr. Chiec is the granddaughter of the late John Sr. and Victoria Chiec and the late James and Joyce O’Connell, all of Girard.
Completes residency
Dr. Ashley N. Nord, a graduate of Canfield High School and a 2012 graduate of Northeast Ohio Medical University, will complete her residency in pediatrics at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron on June 25. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Nord. She will continue at Akron Children’s Hospital for one year as chief resident.
DOCTORATES
Pharmacy degree
Cory Coffey, son of Tom and Betsy Coffey of Hubbard, received his doctor of pharmacy degree May 16 from Northeast Ohio Medical University, Rootstown.
Dr. Coffey completed extensive coursework in the areas of pharmacy management, compounding, ambulatory care, internal medicine, medication therapy management, community practice and hospital practice. Dr. Coffey completed more than 2,000 hours of practical experience at various sites throughout Northeast Ohio.
He is a 2009 Ursuline High School graduate and attended the University of Akron for undergraduate coursework. After graduation, he accepted a position as a postgraduate year-one resident with NEOMED/AxessPointe. His residency will include academic responsibilities at NEOMED, research and collaboration with clinical staff on pharmacy services at AxessPointe Community Health Center in Akron.
Doctor of pharmacy
Lucas Emerson Orth of Cort-land, son of Cynthia and Jeffrey Orth, recently received a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in Lexington.
HONORS
Judge Theresa Dellick of Mahoning County Juvenile Court has received the 2015 Model of Justice Award from the Justice League of Ohio.
Judge Dellick received the award because of her court’s restitution program and “its mission to provide remedy to victims of delinquent acts,” said Cathy Harper Lee, the league’s executive director.
The league provides free representation to crime victims to protect their legal rights.
