Boil advisory lifted

STRUTHERS

Aqua Ohio on Saturday lifted the precautionary water-boil advisory issued early Friday for customers near the intersection of Chesterton Drive and North Lima Road.

Water samples taken over the past 24 hours tested clean, indicating that as of 1 p.m. Saturday the water was safe to drink.

The company had discovered a break in an 8-inch water main along North Lima Road after customers in the area lost water pressure Thursday night.

Customers with additional questions should call the Aqua customer-service center at 877-987-2782.

Discipline reduced

YOUNGSTOWN

Disciplinary action taken against a Youngstown Police officer has been reduced from a 15-day suspension to a four-hour suspension, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

The case stems from a drunken-driving case involving the brother of a Youngstown police lieutenant last November.

After Officer Thomas Wisener arrested Joseph Slattery for drunken driving, Slattery called his brother Lt. Jerry Slattery, who in turn called the officer in charge, Lt. John Kelty.

Wisener claims he was ordered by Kelty to charge Slattery only with a red- light and open-container violation.

After an internal-affairs investigation, Kelty was permanently demoted to patrolman. Slattery was suspended for 10 days. Wisener was suspended for 15 days.

Wisener filed a grievance and took the case to arbitration. An arbitrator struck down Wisener’s 15- day suspension and ruled that only a four-hour suspension is appropriate.
