Ohio man charged with murder after 5-year-old son dies

BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man who authorities say told officers he used a plastic wand from window blinds as a switch on his 5-year-old son has been charged with murder in the boy’s death.

Anthony Barton, 24, of Bellefontaine was charged with the murder count Friday after being charged with child endangering Monday.

Barton’s 5-year-old son Michael died at a hospital Wednesday, two days after Barton’s girlfriend called 911 to report the boy wasn’t breathing.

The Columbus Dispatch reports preliminary autopsy results indicated the boy received multiple blows to his head, causing bleeding of the brain.

Prosecutors said Barton told police he used the plastic wand to hit the child.

Barton remained in the Logan County jail today.
