The annual clean-up of downtown Youngstown and nearby areas is Saturday

YOUNGSTOWN

Streetscape 2015 “Bloom or Bust!” will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the city.

Volunteers will beautify downtown and nearby areas by removing debris, trimming, planting flowers and shrubs and mulching planted areas during the 16th annual event.

Focus areas include the West Federal Street Median, John Young Memorials, and the Front Street/South Avenue corner, City Hall, Wick Park and more.

Participants include Youngstown State University, Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority, Fifth Avenue Boulevard Neighbors, Mahoning Commons, Mercy Health, Northeast Homeowners Association, Buckeye Eyes and Ears Block Watch, 7th Ward Citizens Coalition, Rocky Ridge Neighborhood, Improvement Corps, Handel’s Neighborhood and Wick Park Neighborhood Association.

These groups will clean up and landscape their areas of the city in conjunction with Streetscape.

In the event of inclement weather, landscaping will be conducted Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon.

About 500 volunteers will participate. Contributions still are needed.

Workers will be treated to a light breakfast and a full lunch.
