On April 20, there was a meeting to go over potential changes for the Boardman library. The library is getting ready for renovations to be completed this upcoming fall. Library patrons, workers and those from the public were welcomed to this meeting to discover what is in store for their library. In addition to the information session, the meeting was one dedicated to hearing out the input of those who wished to share their views.

Public Relations Director Janet Loew said she is excited to see the improvements and new additions to the library.

This $637,000 project is estimated to be completed by the fall. However, Loew said that date may be pushed back depending on the circumstances and the board’s decisions.

One of the renovations is revitalizing the children’s area.

“We’re going to have more shelves and add a lot of books,” Leow said.

At the meeting the architects provided diagrams to visually represent their plans. These diagrams are also available online, causing a small worry to some because the addition of books wasn’t added to the drawing.

“The architects sketch of the children’s area has book shelves without books on them but he just didn’t draw them,” Loew said. “We aren’t getting rid of the books.”

Other plans are to “refresh” the meeting area, set up rooms equipped for business meetings and combine the two desks into one big one.

Dee Snyder, president of Friends of Boardman Library, said the entire renovation process is pretty cool. Librarian Cindy Beach echoed that statement.

“It’s really exciting, especially for our children’s area,” librarian Cindy Beach said.
