Poland Memorial Day events


The 43rd annual Memorial Day parade and memorial ceremonies will take place on May 25 at 10 a.m.

The events are as follows: 8:15 a.m. - line up at Baird Mitchell Field; 9 a.m. - opening ceremony honoring The Four Chaplains; 9:15 a.m. - Squadron 15 chaplains Memorial Service at Post 15 home; 10 a.m. - parade begins at corner of Lee and Cortland Streets; 10:15 a.m. - Main Street Bridge Memorial Service for those lost at sea and 10:30 a.m. - memorial services in Riverside Cemetery.

The 2015 Graves Decoration will take place on May 23 at 9 a.m. at the Historic Poland Riverside Cemetery. Family members of deceased Veterans are reminded to have a Veteran’s Flag Holder in place so their loved ones can be honored for their service. Anyone wishing to participate should report to the first drive behind the Chapel at Historic Poland Riverside Cemetery no later than 8:55 a.m. and park on the area of the first driveway behind the Chapel.

Bikes, convertibles and motorcycles are needed for the 2015 Memorial Day Parade. Sons of The American Legion Mahoning Valley Squadron 15 is asking all children to decorate their bikes in red, white and blue to ride in the parade. All children have to do is decorate their bike and get in line. Children planning to participate need to be at Baird Mitchell field with their bikes no later than 9:45 a.m. Also, anyone owning an antique car, convertible, or motorcycle who is interested in participating in the Memorial Day parade are asked to call 330-565-5333 and meet at Post 15 no later than 9 a.m. (9:30 for motorcycles riders).
