Boardman High School boys track concludes seasons as runners-up


The Boardman boys track team concluded its first season as members of the All American Conference by finishing as runners-up following a second place finish at the League Championship Meet at Austintown Fitch High School on May 12.

The Spartans opened the meet by placing fourth in the 4x800 meter relay with the team of senior Nick Long, junior Adam Deeley, sophomore Chris Butler and sophomore Nathaniel Ams.

The next event, the 110-meter hurdles, sophomore Don Lewis was fifth and junior Nick Cessna was sixth.

“Don Lewis has really had a nice season,” explained Phillips, “he has worked very hard and has really grown as a hurdler over time.”

In the 1600-meter run, junior Nathan Hadley placed second and Long was fifth. The Spartans were fourth in the 4x200 meter relay with the team of sophomore Koby Adu-Poku, freshman Noah Massie, junior Tyler Kellam and freshman Ethan Himes. Adu-Poku finished third in the 400.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Massie, Himes, junior AJ Pantaleo and freshman Justice Jama placed fourth.

“Our entire team was outstanding tonight,” said Phillips. “We ran more underclassmen than any other school and still finished a solid second behind an outstanding Fitch team. Our kids left everything on that track, as a coaching staff we could not be more proud.”

In the 300-meter hurdles, Cessna finished sixth and Lewis seventh. In the 200-meter dash, Himes took eighth place. Next, in the 3200-meter run Hadley placed first and Long was third. In the 800-meter run, Ams was fifth, and the Spartan 4x400 meter relay team of junior Jarod Wolfe, freshman John Fleet, Kellam and Adu-Poku took fifth.

In the field events, senior Doug Kephart was third in the discus and sophomore George Wallace was fifth. Kephart was fifth in the shot put and junior Jason Jama was sixth.

In the high jump, sophomore Samer Ramahi placed second and Justice Jama was fourth. While in the pole vault sophomore Richard Fisher took third and senior Andrew Cessna was fourth.

Finally, in the long jump Fisher placed seventh.
