Boardman boys end track season with loss to Fitch Falcons


The Boardman boys track team concluded its regular season with a 90-47 setback at the hands of the Fitch Falcons.

The Spartans opened the meet with a victory by senior Nick Long, junior Adam Deeley, sophomore Chris Butler and sophomore Nathaniel Ams in the 4x800 meter relay. The next event, the 110-meter hurdles, junior Nick Cessna placed second in a time of 17.2 seconds.

In the 1600-meter run, junior Nathan Hadley took first with a time of 4:44, he was followed by Long in a time of 4:47 and Ams in third at 4:52.

The Spartans won the 4x100 meter relay with the team of junior AJ Pantaleo, senior Jon Cina, freshman Noah Massie and sophomore Sheldon Broyles in a time of 44.47 seconds.

Sophomore Kobe Adu-Poku finished third in the 400-meter run with a time of 54.5 seconds. In the 800-meter run, Hadley placed first with a time of 2:01 and followed that up by placing first in the 3200 in 10:22-Long was second at 10:26.

In the field events, junior Jason Jama was second in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet and 1.75 inches, while in the pole vault senior Andrew Cessna finished third.

In the long jump, Cina placed second at 18 feet and 0.25 inches and in the high jump freshman Justice Jama was second and sophomore Richard Fisher was third.

“Finishing the season 9-1 is a great accomplishment for this young team,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips. “Fitch right now is the gold standard in track in Northeast Ohio, and they are extremely talented, we need to work harder at all levels of our program-grade 7-12-to knock them off and I’m confident we will sooner rather than later.”
