Austintown man remains in jail following chase

Alexander Rood, 23, of Yorktown Lane in Austintown, remains in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond after being arraigned in Newton Falls Municipal Court on charges related to a car chase.

Rood was arraigned on charges of failure to comply, reckless operation and red-light and seat-belt violations.

He was not required to enter a plea on the felony failure to comply but pleaded not guilty to the three other charges. He returns to court at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The charges were filed by the Lordstown Police Department.

Police from Austintown, Lordstown and Warren, as well as the Mahoning and Trumbull counties’ posts of the Ohio State Highway Patrol chased Rood on Saturday afternoon in a stolen vehicle Rood was driving, sometimes at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.

He was captured coming out of the Mahoning River near the former St. Joseph Riverside Hospital on Tod Avenue Northwest in Warren.

No charges have yet been filed against him in Mahoning County Area Court in Austintown or Warren Municipal Court.
