Austintown Lions Club hosts annual 5K

Submitted | Neighbors.On May 9, the Austintown Lions Club had its 20th annual 5K Run at Austintown Township Park. Pictured are the ladies' winners, from left, Alyssa Lynch, Alyssa Wirtz and Shannon Dudash.

The Austintown Lions Club recently had its 20th Annual 5K Run at Austintown Township Park on May 9.

Lion Larry Jensen served as race director for the 20 years that the 5K has taken place. Ninety runners participated in the event.

Overall winners were first place - Tom Grantonic of Boardman with a time of 18:13, second place - Ed Brainard of Canfield with a time of 20:00 and third place - Larry Bovo of Struthers with a time of 20:03. Women winners were first place - Alyssa Lynch from Austintown with a time of 20:12, second place - Alyssa Wirtz from Canfield with a time of 20:40 and third place - Shannon Dudash from Poland with a time of 22:55.

Men’s masters (age 40 and above) winners were first place - Donald Peace with a time of 20:30, second place - Steve Hoffmaster with a time of 20:37 and third place - Phillip Allin with a time of 21:12.

Ladies masters winners were first place - Renay Choma with a time of 24:17, second place - Renee Boden with a time of 24:59 and third - Susan Sarachene with a time of 25:37.

All age groups from 15-75 years and older were represented. All winners received awards.

There also was a Kids Run with 7-year-old Kylie Morgan from Alliance as the winner. The finish line was provided by The Youngstown Road Runners Club.
