AfterSchool Players to host auditions for musical adaptation of “Treasure Island”

The Dublin Grange Theatre Co. of Canfield will host auditions for “A Pirates Life for Me” on May 30 from 6-8 p.m. and May 31 from 2-4 p.m. The show is the musical adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island.” Those auditioning are asked to prepare a 60 second song (a capella or karaoke music acceptable) and will read from the script.

Twenty-five actors in grades 3-12 are needed for this production; nine males and 16 females. All characters are speaking roles. Produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, the show is part of the AfterSchool Players’ Summer Theatre Camp, an intensive three week experience that guides students through the audition process, casting, choreography, music, staging and blocking, lighting/sound instruction, stage managing, scenery creation and painting and stage managing instruction.

Instructors involved in the camp are Jennifer Kuczek - director/producer, Stacy Anderson - musical director, Rachel Spak – choreographer, Devin Whitehouse – stage manager, Ellen Lictra – lighting.sound. “We are excited to bring this camp to the area for the third year in a row,” said Jennifer Kuczek. “Our instructors are well-known and respected in the theater community. And the timing of the camp will let kids enjoy summer activities like swimming and being outdoors while still being able to attend a camp.”

Students will meet daily, Monday through Friday, from 6-9 p.m., starting on June 15. There will be a short break for the July 4 weekend and the show will run Friday – Sunday, July 10, 11 and 12. The cost is $75 per student with free/reduced tuition by fundraiser participation.

Students may also participate in the camp and work behind the scenes.
