BREAKING NEWS | Grand jury indicts 6 on drugs, murder charges

YOUNGSTOWN — Three people already facing charges for a series of four drug-related homicides on the East Side in 2011 and 2012 received new charges today and three additional people were also charged with being part of their enterprise.

The new defendants are Vincent Moorer, 31; Melvin Johnson, 30; and Nahdia Baker, 28, who were all indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury today.

They join Dewaylin Colvin, 33, and Michael Austin, 21, who each face four counts of aggravated murder, and Hakeem Henderson, 23, who is charged with two homicides Colvin and Austin are accused of committing.

The grand jury tacked two additional murder counts onto Henderson and Moorer also was charged with two counts of aggravated murder.

All six were indicted on charges of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. Additional charges include attempted murder, aggravated arson and firearms charges.

Assistant Prosecutor Martin Desmond said all six were part of a drug ring that made more than $1 million in profits and besides the four homicides, also shot at several other people.
