Theater season opener is ‘Cats’


The 2015-16 lineup includes ‘Poppins’

The Youngstown Playhouse’s 2015-16 season will include the musicals “Cats,” “Mary Poppins” and “Guys and Dolls.”

Season tickets are now available at the box office or by phone at 330-788-8739.

The Playhouse is on Glenwood Avenue.

There will be four productions on the main stage, and three in the Moyer Room as part of the Griffith-Adler series for nonmainstream fare in an intimate setting.

Here is the schedule:

MAIN STAGE

“Cats” (Sept.11-20): Andrew Lloyd Webber’s award-winning sensation is the third-longest running musical in Broadway history and played a combined total of 39 years in New York and London.

“Mary Poppins” (Dec. 4-13): In conjunction with the Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theater, the beloved Disney musical will be on stage for the holiday season.

“The Odd Couple” (March 11-20, 2016): Neil Simon’s iconic comedy about a mismatched duo.

“Guys and Dolls” (May 13-22, 2016): The classic musical, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award and many other honors.

GRIFFITH-ADLER SERIES

“The Colored Museum” (Oct. 9-24): George C. Wolfe’s groundbreaking play explores and satirizes themes and identities of African-American culture.

“Foul Play” (Feb. 5-14, 2016): The premiere performance of this new play by Youngstown’s Terry Shears, which is about a new play having the worst opening night.

“American Buffalo” (June 10-19, 2016): Three small time crooks go out on a limb for one big job in David Mamet’s critically acclaimed play, later adapted into a movie.
