The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled that Jesse A. Hayes, 15, of Parma, died of a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the death a homicide.

His cousin, Thomas A. Catalde Jr., 28, is in the Trumbull County Jail without bond eligibility after his arraignment Thursday on one count of reckless homicide in Hayes’ death.

Catalde, of Ruth Avenue and Nelson Mosier Road, both in Leavittsburg, was arrested last week. Catalde told Warren Township police the May 9 shooting was an accident.

New Middletown cops use Narcan

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Village police Sunday used the anti-heroin drug Narcan on a person having a heroin overdose.

An officer was called to a home on Ohlin Drive on Sunday morning for a report of a man who was not breathing. When the officer got there, the man, 42, of Poland, had signs that he was experiencing an overdose, so the officer gave him the Narcan, reports said. Several minutes later the man woke up and was taken to a hospital to be examined.

Inside the home, police found marijuana and drug paraphernalia, the release said.

Charges are expected to be filed later this week. The department received the Narcan from the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office.
