Staff report
LORDSTOWN
The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze has received a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The rating went unchanged from 2015 to 2016, according to the NHSTA website, safercar.gov.
Overall, the compact car received five stars; five stars for frontal crash; five stars for side crash; and four stars for a rollover.
The vehicle also received these ratings in 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2011.
The NHSTA’S New Car Assessment Program created the 5-Star Safety Ratings Program to provide consumers with information about the crash protection and rollover safety of new vehicles beyond what is required by federal law.
Every year, a sample of new vehicles expected to have high sales volume or vehicles that have been redesigned are tested by NHTSA.
Tested vehicles are purchased from dealerships across the country; the vehicles are not supplied directly to NHTSA by the automaker, according to NHTSA’s website.
The General Motors Assembly Plant in Lords-town has produced more than 1 million Cruzes – the automaker’s best-selling car.
