Meeting on tax hike

CANFIELD

City officials will host a town-hall meeting on a proposed income-tax increase after Wednesday’s city council meeting.

City council will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Francis J. McLaughlin Municipal Building, 104 Lisbon St. City officials have said they plan to host a few town-hall meetings about the proposed increase that will appear on the Aug. 4 ballot.

The city is asking residents to approve a 0.5-percent increase. The current income-tax rate is 1 percent and was initiated in 1972.

The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission, located in the Renaissance Center, 345 Oak Hill Ave., Suite 1000, will close Friday for training services.

Identify wildflowers

MERCER, PA.

The Mercer County Conservation District will host a program on learning how to identify wildflowers at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Munnell Run Farm, 753 Greenville Road. The beginning portion of the workshop will provide an introductory course on how to identify wildflowers located in western Pennsylvania.

After the introductory lesson, guests will take a walk around the farm to see what flowers are in bloom to test the skills presented in the classroom.

Gas station adding convenience store

Work is underway to upgrade the Shell gas station at 5135 Market St. near Indianola Road. The project, according to the township’s zoning office, includes the addition of a 4,000-square-foot convenience store to the location.
