Keller, Pikunas shine at Junior PGA qualifier

Mahoning Valley junior golfers finished atop three of the four age division in a Northern Ohio PGA Junior Golf sectional qualifier at Trumbull Country Club on Saturday.

Cardinal Mooney’s Ken Keller and Boardman’s Jacinta Pikunas each recorded the low score in their respective 16-18 age division with a 3-over par 73. Canfield’s Hannah Keffler shot a 79 to beat out the rest of the girls 13-15 division.

Joining Keller as a qualifier in the boys 16-18 division is Mooney’s Nick Braydich and Boardman’s Ethan Thomas with a pair of 79 rounds. Alexis Cadle of North Jackson was the other area girl to qualify in the 16-18 division.

Austin Jacobs of Jefferson shot 80, Alex Tambellini of East Liverpool shot 82 and Bobby Jonda of Boardman shot 83 — all good enough to qualify in the boys 13-15 division.

The sectional championship is June 22-23 at Shady Hollow Country Club in Massillon.
