“Bessie” (8 p.m., HBO): Queen Latifah makes a royal impression in this portrait of the legendary Roaring ’20s blues singer Bessie Smith. Directed by Dee Rees, the film offers an intimate look at the tenacious woman whose powerful voice took her from anonymity in the rough-and-tumble world of vaudeville to international fame, while dealing with plenty of heartache along the way. The cast also includes Khandi Alexander, Mike Epps, Oliver Platt and Mo’Nique.

“The Billboard Music Awards: AN INSIDER’S GUIDE” (8 P.M., ABC): This special preps viewers for the upcoming trophy fest and includes interviews with chart-topping stars in hop-hop, rock, country, rhythm and blues, and pop.

“Saturday Night Live” (10:30 P.M., NBC): Louis C.K. hosts and Rihanna performs in tonight’s season finale.

“Community Connection” (Sunday at 6:30 a.m. on 21 WFMJ-TV, and 11 a.m. on WBCB-TV): The Click It or Ticket Campaign will begin Monday. New Middletown Police Chief Vince D’Egidio and Susan Viars of Mahoning Safe Communities will join host Madonna Chism Pinkard to discuss the campaign.

Robert Burke of the Youngstown parks and recreation department will discuss summer activities, including the new concert series Wickstock 2015.

Finally, Vince Brancaccio of Help Hotline will discuss the new initiatives and how they utilize the 211 emergency call number to assist families in crisis.
