LAS VEGAS

Three shows into her Las Vegas residency, Mariah Carey says bronchitis caused her to cancel a Wednesday night show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

A representative for Carey confirmed Thursday that a doctor diagnosed the pop icon with bronchitis. Chris Chambers with the Chamber Group said the singer famous for hitting high notes will be back on stage today and Sunday and will still perform Sunday at the Billboard Music Awards.

Chambers didn’t say if Carey’s canceled performance would be rescheduled.

Prosecutors drop firearms charge against Buju Banton

TAMPA, Fla.

Federal prosecutors have agreed to drop a firearms charge against Jamaican reggae star Buju Banton, who is already serving a 10-year sentence.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that a deal with Banton calls for his waiver of all future appeals related to his 2011 conviction on a cocaine distribution conspiracy charge.

Banton is scheduled to be released from federal prison in January 2019, at which time he will be deported to his native Jamaica.

Banton’s attorneys previously argued that he should be released early under a change in federal drug- sentencing guidelines.
