Youngstown firefighters rescue man in fall at Mill Creek Park

YOUNGSTOWN
City firefighters late Thursday rescued a man who fell off a trail in Mill Creek Park in the water near Lanterman Falls.
Crews were called about 11:50 p.m. by Mill Creek MetroParks police. When they arrived, an officer told firefighters a person had fallen off a trail into the water.
A firefighter descended the hill on a rope, and the firefighter could see the victim in the water, reports said. Reports said the man appeared to be in shock, was not talking and was shaking.
Firefighters were afraid he would pass out in the water and either sink or go over the falls, so three additional firefighters were lowered on ropes to put the victim in a safety harness, and then he was pulled to safety.
Reports identified the man as David Degan, 19, of Quentin Drive.
He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to be examined. A park spokeswoman said police still are investigating and do not yet know if Degan will be cited for being in the park after dark.
