METRO DIGEST || Neglected dog ‘in very poor health’ removed

Dog removed

BOARDMAN

Police who went to a home to help the fire department on a drug overdose call found a dog in such bad shape they called Animal Charity to remove it. Police entered the home on Crestline Place around 9:30 a.m. Friday while paramedics were administering Narcan to a man who had overdosed on heroin, said Boardman Sgt. Paul Grimes. The report does not indicate the size or breed of the dog, but says it was “in very poor health.” It’s unclear who owns the dog, he said. The house is occupies, but Boardman Zoning Department and Mahoning County Board of Health were notified because it has no working toilet. The dog’s health issues will be Animal Charity’s first priority, Grimes said. Then, if the agency decides it can’t be returned to its owner, it will determine if it is eligible to be fostered or adopted.
