7 men apply to be executive director of port authority

VIENNA

Seven men submitted applications by Friday’s deadline to become executive director of the Western Reserve Port Authority, including one attorney and two current airport executives.

John Moliterno, interim executive director since September, also is one of the seven, saying in his cover letter that his resume “reflects the leadership positions I have held in both the private and nonprofit sectors, as well as my extensive community involvement in the Mahoning Valley and for the state of Ohio.”

His resume lists eight jobs he’s had since 1978 and 34 entries under “community enterprise work and public offices held,” including his current position on Girard City Council.

Michael Haritakis of Hudson, Ohio, co-founded and grew the start-up medical-device manufacturer Thermedx from 2007 to the present and raised more than $15 million in financing for it, he states in his resume.

He earned his law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University from 1992 to 1995 and was assistant vice president of Apollo Housing Capital, a real-estate finance company, from 2003 to 2007.

He was director of business development and legal affairs for Everstream Inc., a Solon software company, from 2000 to 2002. He has a master’s degree in entrepreneurship and management from Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Derek Martin of New Jersey has been manager of air service at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey from 2014 to the present, managing air-service development for the agency’s five commercial-service airports, including New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport.

He secured new international nonstop service to Cancun from Stewart International Airport and created, developed and initiated the first air-service incentive program for the port authority, his resume says.

Before that, he was deputy general manager from 2010 to 2014, assisting the general manager with a strategic plan for Stewart International Airport and securing $143.5 million for the rehabilitation of two runways.

He was airport director at the airport in Klamath Falls, Ore., from 2007 to 2010 and deputy director of air-service business development and marketing at Greater Rockford Airport Authority in Illinois from 2002 to 2006.

Anthony T. Trevena of Ormond Beach, Fla., has been owner and operator of Fusion 43, an Ormond Beach restaurant, and also was general manager of Blau Mediterranean Grill in Ormond Beach for two years.

He was vice president of operations for Donald P. Pipino Co. of Youngstown in 2011 and was chief of staff from 2008 to 2010 for John Boccieri when Boccieri was a member of Congress.

Trevena was deputy director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources from 2006 to 2008 and was district field representative from 2001 to 2006 for Ted Strickland when he was a member of Congress. He has a master’s degree in business administration from Youngstown State University.

Jeffrey Miller of Mishawaka, Ind., has been senior airport operations specialist at San Jose International Airport in San Jose, Calif., for three years, supporting management in day-to-day administration and improvement of airport operations programs. He was operations specialist at Stockton Metropolitan Airport from 2010 to 2012.

John Sernulka of Richmond, Ky., recently retired from Sherwin-Williams Co., where he was continuous-improvement manager in Richmond for 31/2 years and was manager of the distribution service center for six years. He was plant controller from 2002 to 2004 and administrative manager for distribution for three facilities from 1989 to 2004.

He graduated from Youngstown State University in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and grew up in the Warren-Cortland area.

Albert R. LeRoy of Vienna has been general manager of B2B Sales and Service, Things Remembered Fulfillment Center, since 2014 and was communications consultant for Embarq/Century Link from 2008 to 2013.

The port authority will have its next meeting at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at its economic-development office at 240 North Champion St., Youngstown.
