On April 28, the Austintown library hosted Stamping with Cindy, an adult craft program offered once per month.

Cindy Mawhinney, the instructor of the class and library clerk, said she got into this class in 2008.

“I used to work at Michaels and teach classes like these,” Mawhinney said.

Mawhinney said there is a group of people like her who demonstrate the perks of getting into the craft of stamping,

She described in detail, step-by-step, how to make the project the class was given to work on — a craft with makeshift flowers in pots.

Mawhinney walked around and helped those who asked, even letting some students start over or start another project.

“I didn’t get into the whole stamping thing until I went to a Stampin’ Up! party,” Mawhinney said. “That’s when I got hooked.”

Stampin’ Up! is a company that sells stamps, paper, ink pads and various other craft supplies.

Many people that don’t think they are artistically inclined are encouraged to try stamping because it doesn’t require the same level of skill.

“People that say they can’t do crafty things and they can. You don’t have to be crafty to do this, do you guys?” Mawhinney asked her class.

Students of the class responded with nods of no.

Wayne Lewis, the only male student of the class said he encourages everyone to participate in Stamping with Cindy.

“I was drafted into coming here and it’s fantastic,” Lewis said.
