Philly woman jailed on charges she dined and dashed 8 times
PHILADELPHIA
A Philadelphia woman has been jailed on charges she’s dined and dashed at eight city restaurants since February.
The exploits of 33-year-old Janeen Thomas have been chronicled by Philadelphia Magazine and WCAU-TV, which caught up with the woman after her latest arrest last week.
That’s when police say Thomas ran up a $54 tab for three Long Island iced teas and a meal at Vedge, a vegan restaurant. Police say Thomas went outside to smoke then walked away without paying the bill.
The manager was trying to get Thomas to pay the bill, but called police once she refused. Police say the restaurant was willing to settle the issue there, but officers weren’t when they recognized Thomas from a magazine article earlier this month, citing her recent string of incidents.
Police: Man enraged by lack of mac and cheese at rest stop
NEWBURG, Pa.
State police say a New York man became angry when he couldn’t get macaroni and cheese at a Pennsylvania Turnpike rest stop. He then became furious when the same restaurant was out of potatoes.
Forty-seven-year-old Kevin Nelson, of Amsterdam, was cited for disorderly conduct Wednesday.
Police say Nelson stopped at a Roy Rogers at a rest stop in Hopewell Township, Cumber-land County, on Monday night then became “angry and agitated and began to curse” after learning the restaurant was out of macaroni and cheese.
Police say Nelson then got coffee from another vendor and returned to order potatoes at the Roy Rogers. Told they were out of potatoes, too, Nelson reportedly became enraged and began throwing condiments over the counter.
A phone number for Nelson could not immediately be located.
Michigan couple: Name for son No. 13 still up in air
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.
A Michigan man whose 13th son was just born says he’s convinced that “medically, it’s just not possible” for him and his wife to produce a daughter.
He also says it’s proving a challenge to agree on a name for their newborn.
Forty-year-old Jay Schwandt tells The Grand Rapids Press the boy born Wednesday is the second he and his wife, Kateri, have had who arrived with a full head of hair.
The baby and his 40-year-old mother are doing well at Mercy Health Saint Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. The boy is 22 inches and weighs 8 pounds, 9 ounces.
The couple live in the Grand Rapids suburb of Rockford. They say they stuck to their tradition of not knowing the baby’s sex ahead of time.
