Man rescued by firefighters after falling off trail in Mill Creek Park

YOUNGSTOWN — City firefighters late Thursday rescued a man who fell off a trail in Mill Creek Park in the water near Lanterman Falls.

Crews were called about 11:50 p.m. by Mill Creek MetroParks Police and when they arrived an officer told firefighters a person had fallen off a trail into the water.

A firefighter descended the hill on a rope and the firefighter could see the victim in the water, reports said. Reports said the man appeared to be in shock, was not talking and was shaking.

Firefighters were afraid he would pass out in the water and either sink or go over the falls, so three additional firefighters were lowered down on ropes to put the victim in a safety harness, and he was then pulled to safety.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to be examined for any injuries.

The man’s name is not yet available. A spokesman for the park police department said today the incident is still under investigation.
