BREAKING NEWS | Jury finds Jerome Given not guilty of attempted murder, guilty of assault

YOUNGSTOWN — Jurors today found a man not guilty of attempted murder and felonious assault in the shooting of 44-year-old Charles Pete on Compton Lane last July 11.

Jurors did find Jerome Given, 53, guilty of aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony.

Given was taken into custody after the verdicts in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Sentencing will be at a later date.

Prosecutors said Given shot Pete three times in Given's driveway, but Given claimed self-defense. The shooting stemmed from a child-custody dispute.
