Boardman Boys track wins AAC Meet
The Boardman Boys Track Team improved its record to 8-0 by defeating the Youngstown East Panthers and Warren Harding Raiders in an AAC meet 104-51-20.
The Spartans opened the meet by placing first in the 4x800 relay with the team of junior Nathan Hadley, senior Nick Long, sophomore Nathaniel Ams and junior Adam Deeley. The next event, the 110 hurdles, junior Nick Cessna placed first and sophomore Don Lewis finished third. In the 100 senior Jon Cina finished fourth, and the 4x200 relay team of sophomore Kobe Adu-Poku, sophomore Jeff Kollar, freshman Noah Massie and freshman Ethan Himes was second. In the 1600-meter run, Ams took first place, sophomore Chris Butler finished third and sophomore Nick Digiacomo placed fourth.
The Spartans placed second in the 4x100 meter relay with the team of junior AJ Pantaleo, Massie, Cina and sophomore Sheldon Broyles. Adu-Poku placed third in the 400, and in the 300-meter hurdles Cessna placed first with Lewis in fourth. The 800 was won by Hadley, with Deeley in third. In the 200-meter dash, Broyles took second and Himes was third, while in the 32000meter run Digiacomo was first, Butler was second, Ams was third and freshman Matt Moradian was fourth. The 4x400 relay team of Deeley, senior Kostas Kasamias, freshman John Fleet and senior Dan Liptak placed second.
In the field events, senior Doug Kephart placed first in the discus and second in the shot put. Junior Jason Jama was first in the shot put, sophomore George Wallace was second in the discus and fourth in the shot put and senior Andrew Maughan was fourth in the discus. Sophomore Richard Fisher was first in the high jump and third in the long jump as well as second in the pole vault; Massie was second in the long jump and junior Ziad Khalil placed fourth in the long jump. Freshman Justice Jama and sophomore Samer Ramahi were third and fourth in the high jump while senior Andrew Cessna placed first in the pole vault with Liptak third and sophomore Vi Trinh Luu in fourth.
The meet was the final home meet and Senior Night for the Spartans. It also marked the final race on the current track, as new stadium construction will cause the track to be resurfaced and relined for next year.
The final Spartan to cross the “old finish line” was junior Evan Noll as the anchor leg of the C 4x4.
“Definitely want to thank our nine-member senior class for all that they’ve done for our program,” said Spartan Head Coach John Phillips, “also was a great way to end the life of the current track before our new surface is in.”
