Boardman boys track improve record over Hubbard


The Boardman Boys Track Team improved its record to 9-0 with an 87-41 victory over the Hubbard Eagles.

The Spartans began the meet by winning the 4x800 meter relay with the team of junior Adam Deeley, sophomore Chris Butler, sophomore Nick Digiacomo and senior Nick Long. The next event, the 110-meter hurdles, junior Nick Cessna took first and sophomore Don Lewis was second. In the 100-meter dash, sophomore Sheldon Broyles placed second with senior Jon Cina in third. The 4x200 meter relay team of sophomore Jeff Kollar, sophomore Kobe Adu-Poku, freshman Noah Massie and freshman Ethan Himes placed first. In the 1600-meter run, sophomore Nathaniel Ams finished second overall. The Spartans won the 4x100 meter relay with the team of junior AJ Pantaleo, Cina, Massie and Broyles. Adu-Poku placed first in the 400 with junior Tyler Kellam second and freshman John Fleet in third.

In the 300 hurdles, Cessna was second and Lewis placed third. The 200-meter dash had Himes take second and freshman Justice Jama place third. The next event was the 3200-meter run which saw the Spartans sweep with Digiacomo in first, freshman Matt Moradiaan second and freshman Jimmy Lagese third. The Spartans capped the meet by winning the 4x400 with the team of Adu-Poku, Cina, Kellam and Broyles.

“This week was taxing on our kids,” said Spartan Head Coach John Phillips. “Having four meets in nine days is very tough, but we were able to use most varsity guys in just one or two events, put in some younger guys, and still put up some very impressive numbers.”

In the field events, sophomore Richard Fisher placed first in the long jump with Massie in third, and in the high jump Jama was second with Fisher in third. In the discus, the Spartans placed senior Doug Kephart second and sophomore George Wallace third and the shot put had junior Jason Jama take second with Kephart in third.
