Warren man gets 11-year prison term for 2014 shooting

WARREN — Kevin Gaines, 24, of Union Street and Southwest Boulevard, will spend 11 years in prison for shooting a city man, 23, in the back Dec. 13, 2014, on Arnold Drive Southwest in the Highland Homes apartments.

The man spent six days in the hospital recovering from his injuries.

Gaines received his sentence Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, where he was convicted at trial of two counts of felonious assault. The second count was for a woman who was with the victim but was not hit by the gunfire.

The victims said they gave a man a ride to the Highland Homes at close to midnight after leaving a wedding. The man spoke to someone at an apartment, and they left but made a wrong turn on the way out and were confronted by Gaines in the apartment parking lot.
