POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:
GIRARD
May 10
Arrest: Police arrested 20-year-old Tyree D. Robinson of Palmer Avenue, Youngstown, after having pulled him over near Dearborn Avenue for speeding. He was wanted on a Youngstown warrant.
May 11
Menacing: A South Davis Street man alleged his landlord pulled out a small club that resembled a baseball bat and threatened him during a dispute between them.
Assault: A Dearborn Avenue man reported a neighbor shoved him before two other people joined the melee and struck the accuser in what evidently began as an altercation about a dog having run loose on the victim’s property.
May 12
Animal complaint: A charge was pending against a Washington Avenue man after authorities received a complaint that an aggressive pit bull had been roaming the area. Also, the Trumbull County dog warden was called to the scene.
Menacing: Two males told police that another man followed and chased them into a U.S. Route 422 gas station and threatened to beat them up, apparently as part of a property dispute.
Suspicious activity: A West Wilson Avenue woman reported that on separate occasions, a man and a woman claiming to represent the Mercer County, Pa., Department of Children Services knocked on her door and said they were looking for a 14-year-old boy. The woman also notified the agency.
May 13
Theft: A man discovered a 38-inch flat-screen TV missing from his apartment in the 300 block of Elruth Court.
HUBBARD
May 7
Theft: Alexander J. Rood, 24, of Yorktown Lane, Youngstown, faced a felony-theft charge after a Rebecca Avenue man reported his elderly mother’s credit card had been stolen. Also taken were 29 OxyContin pills and $100 from the accuser, a report showed.
May 8
Theft of services: Police received a complaint that someone without authorization had dumped garbage into a trash bin that belongs to an apartment complex in the 100 block of Hubbard-Youngstown Road.
May 9
Arrest: A traffic stop in the 7400 block of Hubbard-Bedford Road resulted in the arrest of William M. Baum Jr., 46, of John White Road, Hubbard, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.
May 10
Menacing: A Bell Wick Road man told officers a 62-year-old Hubbard man again threatened him after an incident between them a few months ago in which the accuser said the man had nearly struck his vehicle as they traveled on state Route 304.
Breaking and entering: Someone broke into Wings Express Reloaded, 119 N. Main St., via the front door and removed an undisclosed amount of money.
Arrests: Linda D. Boles, 35, and Cindy S. Schweiss, 55, both of Owsley Street, were taken into custody after having been pulled over in the 800 block of West Liberty Street. The two Masury women were wanted on warrants.
May 12
Drugs: Police responding to a report of an unwanted person in the 200 block of West Liberty Street charged 34-year-old Cathy Hanshaw of Olive Street, Niles, with one misdemeanor count each of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia as well as resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstructing official business. Hanshaw, who authorities said had suspected marijuana and a suspected marijuana pipe, also swore at, struggled and refused to cooperate with officers, they said.
LIBERTY
May 8
Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail arrested 39-year-old Tanisha L. Gilmore of Fairlawn Avenue, Youngstown, on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.
Arrest: Alex A. Parent was picked up on a warrant from Youngstown. Parent, 29, of Sierra Madre Trail, Boardman, also was cited on a charge of driving under suspension.
Breaking and entering/drugs: After responding an alarm at Liberty High School, 1 Leopard Way, officers charged a township boy, 16, and a Girard boy, 17, with breaking and entering when, they said, the teens admitted having entered the school through the front door. The 16-year-old also was charged with having a digital scale and a mason jar containing suspected marijuana.
Drug paraphernalia: June M. Slenker, 59, of Logan Way, Liberty, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police said a family member gave them a suspected crack-cocaine pipe that Slenker was alleged to have used.
Identity theft: A Monticello Boulevard woman reported getting correspondence from the Internal Revenue Service and the Social Security Administration stating someone without authorization had used her Social Security number to obtain money.
Arrest: Traci White of Canfield Road, Youngstown, was booked at the Mahoning County jail. The 46-year-old White was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.
May 9
Arrest: Austintown police transferred custody of Louis A. Slepski to township authorities. Slepski, 33, of Hadley Avenue, Liberty, was wanted on a warrant charging various drug offenses.
Aggravated menacing: A Keefer Road woman alleged her son had threatened to burn down her residence, causing the accuser and another family member to fear for their safety.
Criminal damaging: A man told police someone tossed a brick through his windshield as he drove in the 3500 block of Cardinal Drive.
Child endangerment: Natisha M. Lee, 39, of East Auburndale Avenue, Youngstown, faced two misdemeanor counts of endangering children after authorities received information that two children, including a 4-month-old infant, were alone in a car at a Belmont Avenue clothing store. The outside temperature was about 85 degrees and the two youngsters were sweating, a report showed.
Theft: A man discovered his iPhone missing after having patronized a Belmont Avenue restaurant.
Criminal damaging: An officer saw what appeared to be a pellet or a BB in a car’s quarter panel after a woman reported something had hit her vehicle as she drove near Cardinal Drive.
May 10
Domestic violence: Richard A. Thompson Jr., 38, of Jo Ann Lane, Liberty, was charged with the crime after his wife alleged that during an argument regarding the use of a vehicle, Thompson had shoved her against their residence, then stepped on the hand of another family member who picked up several pills from a bottle he had thrown.
May 11
Domestic violence: A warrant was issued for a 39-year-old Youngstown man after his wife, of Catherine Street, alleged he had attacked her brother and placed him in a chokehold when he tried to intervene during an argument.
Domestic violence: Virgil G. Ballew, 58, of Liberty Avenue, Liberty, was charged after a family member alleged that during an argument, Ballew had struck his face and hit him with a glass, causing a deep cut to the accuser’s face.
