Kent Kroynovich sparked the Eagles (12-12) with three hits and two runs. Brett Lopuchovsky’s two hits included a double and drove in two runs. Zach Hover’s two hits included a double. Jacob Goldberg contributed a pinch-hit two-run single. Winning pitcher Colin Shinosky (3-1) struck out six and walked one. Today, Hubbard plays Cardinal Mooney at Cene Park at 4:30 p.m. in a sectional final.

Niles 4, Lakeview 2

NILES

Jaret Johnson pitched a four-hitter and struck out six and Tyler Srbinovich drove in two runs as the Red Dragons won a sectional semifinal at Wilder Field. Geno Barricella, Garrett Pitts and Murphy Miller all singled and scored for Niles, which will visit Canfield today in a sectional final. Nick Boldt and Jackson Gagne scored for Lakeview.

Southest 2, Salem 0

PALMYRA

Eric Sapp pitched a no-hitter and Travis Nunley’s RBI double in the first inning and Corey Lee’s RBI double in the fourth accounted for the game’s only runs as the Pirates beat the Quakers in a sectional semifinal. Southeast (12-14) will visit Poland at 4:30 today in a sectional final.

Crestwood 7, Struthers 1

MANTUA

Gabe Surgeon doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs as the Red Devils beat the Wildcats in a sectional semifinal. Crestwood (14-12) blew open a one-run game with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. John Medvec drove in the only run of the game for Struthers (5-15) with a fifth-inning double. Hunter Osborne went the distance for the Red Devils, who will meet West Branch in a sectional final at 4:30 today in Beloit.

Bryan Leipply had three hits and teammates Cobie Pratt, Tom Sharp, Bryan Oatridge and Rob Helmick each had two as the Mustangs (15-5, 11-1) beat the Bombers in a Northeastern Athletic Conference game. Oatridge, Helmick and Mike Kennedy each had a double for Mathews. Mustangs pitcher Ryan Kay struck out four and allowed just two hits in five innings.

BEAVER TOWNSHIP

Caragyn Yanek tossed a no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking one as South Range (19-6) advanced to the Springfield district semifinals on Monday with a 4:30 p.m. game against Girard. Morgan Czopur sparked the Raiders’ offense with three hits and two runs scored. Codi Taylor’s two hits included a triple and she drove in two runs. Sarah Moretti also had two RBIs.

CHAMPION

Haylee Gardiner pitched a perfect game and struck out 12 as the Golden Flashes breezed to a sectional title. Gardiner improved to 11-2 and Champion moved to 22-4. Alexandria Steigerwald had four hits, Megan Turner and Btittany Allen each had three and McKenzie Zigmont had two for the Golden Flashes. Molly Williams doubled and drove in two runs for Champion and Alayna Fell also had a double. Amber Ricci had two RBIs for the Golden Flashes, who will meet AAC rival LaBrae in a district semifinal at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Area Girls Softball Complex in Jefferson.

LaBrae 5, Pymatuning Valley 3

LEAVITTSBURG

Emily Dugan singled twice and drove in two runs and the Vikings scored three times in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit and beat the Lakers in a sectional final. Skyler Gilanyi also had two hits and drove in a run. Dugan struck out 12 and allowed just four hits in the victory. LaBrae (14-10) will meet AAC rival Champion in a district semifinal at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Area Girls Softball Complex in Jefferson. Kristin Saner also drove in a run for the Vikings.

Ursuline 13, Atwater Waterloo 3

Megan Ross, Stephanie Ohalek and Chloe Cruz each had three hits as Ursuline (12-11) beat Waterloo in a sectional final. Ross’ hits included a home run and she finished with four RBIs and three runs scored. Cruz’s hits included a double and two RBIs. Christina Xenakis scored three times for the Irish. Jordyn Kenneally picked up the win scattering six hits, striking out eight with no walks. Machayla Kehrer had two hits for the Vikings (13-8). Ursuline plays Crestwood in a regular-season game at 4:30 p.m. today at the Youngstown State Softball Complex, then visits Akron Hoban at noon on Saturday. The Irish will face Newton Falls in a district semifinal Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Springfield High School in New Middletown.

Top-seeded Newton Falls outlasted Springfield in an extra inning in a matchup of Tigers in a sectional final. No other details were reported.

Alexis Fogle went 4 for 4 and Zoe Salyers doubled, homered and drove in three runs as the Hornets beat the Indians in a sectional final. Katelyn Kennedy doubled and drove in three runs. Salyers pitched a one-hitter for the victory. K. Gardener had the only hit for Southern Local.

Canfield 10, Howland 5

HOWLAND

Ally Sammarco and Rachel Tinkey hit home runs and the Cardinals scored five times in the top of the 10th inning to beat the Tigers in an AAC Red matchup. Marina Sturgeon had three hits for Canfield (19-7, 9-1), while Maura Kennedy, Tinkey and Amelia Manenti each had two. Kennedy drove in four runs. Sara Price had three hits, including two doubles, for Howland (15-10, 7-5). The Tigers’ Lexi Ross also had two doubles and drove in three runs.

SECTIONAL TOURNAMENTS

Division II

Teffner, Horvath, Ricciardi advance

BOARDMAN

Top-seeded Zach Teffner (Lakeview), second-seeded Les Horvath (Ursuline)and third-seeded Anthony Ricciardi (Poland) advanced Wednesday in the Division II sectional tennis tournament. All three will complete in Saturday’s semifinals/finals at Boardman High School. The fourth position will be determined today when Poland’s Carli Sebest tries to become the first female in a number of years to advance to the singles semifinals/finals in boys tennis when she plays fourth-seeded Rich Hill of Cardinal Mooney.

Doubles action Wednesday was highlighted by the Struthers duo of Alex Thompson and Dom Caracozza, who upset third-seeded Chris Metzinger and Dante Rossi of Ursuline, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6. Thompson and Caracozza will join top-seeded Andrew Stille and Jacob Stefko (Cardinal Mooney), second-seeded Eric Rohrabaugh and Nate Erickson (Lakeview) and fourth-seeded Daniel LaPolla and John LaPolla (Warren JFK) in Saturday’s action.

The top four singles players and doubles teams qualify for next week’s district tournament in Canton.

Division I

Boardman, Canfield players alive

CANTON

Canfield’s doubles team of Bobby Long and Timmy Cianciola qualified for next week’s district tournament by winning three times Tuesday after a first-round bye at the Harvard Park Courts. Long and Cianciola defeated Canton McKinley’s Mitchell Miller and Nader Shaheen, 6-0, 6-0, in the second round. The Cardinals’ duo then beat GlenOak’s Nate Curry and Tony Mazzaferri, 6-2, 6-0. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Lake’s Connor McKenney and Justin Kelley, 6-1, 6-1.

Boardman singles players Donnie Barrett, Brian Hirschl and Kris Santilli also advanced. Barrett, the tournament’s No. 3 seed, got a first-round bye, then defeared GlenOak’s Nate Wellman, 6-1, 6-0 and Louisville’s Ryan Richards, 6-0, 6-1. Hirschl beat Massillon’s Nate Ruth 6-3, 6-1 and Canfield’s Alec Kan 6-1, 7-6 (5). He then defeated Jackson’s Mitch Sloan 6-4, 7-5. Santilli beat Massillon’s Zach Wolfe 6-0, 6-0 and Green’s Shazad Asif 6-0, 6-1 before taking down Lake’s Dawson Drummond, the No. 4 seed, 7-6 (8), 6-4.

The tournament continues Saturday.
