UPDATE — Man transported to hospital after Canfield accident

CANFIELD — An elderly male was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with serious injuries following an early afternoon crash.

He was one of two people transported from a silver Cadillac that was traveling westbound on U.S. Route 224 in Canfield when a black four-door car traveling eastbound attempted to turn left onto southbound state Route 11, Sgt. Brad Bucey of the Ohio State Highway Patrol explained.

In total, three people were taken to an area hospital and four vehicles were involved in the crash.

He said authorities were called to the crash about 11:50 a.m. Officials from OSP, Canfield City police and Mahoning County Sheriff's Office all assisted in directing traffic and the clean up. Traffic had begun flowing better after it was congested for about 90 minutes for the crash and clean up.

Bucey said, The "construction zone really had nothing to do with the crash."

That intersection is filled with cones as the 224 bridge is being replaced and widened over Route 11.

That $6.5 million project is anticipated to be completed in October.
