“Oliver!,SDRq directed by Mark Frost, Salem Community Theatre, 490 E. State St., Salem, auditions for youths (7 to 14) at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday. A large cast of adults and youths is needed. All parts are open, and prior stage experience is not a requirement. The show is an adaptation of the novel “Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens. Actors should come prepared to sing a short song. Bring sheet music, and musical accompaniment will be provided. Applicants without sheet music will be given an opportunity to sing any well-known song they prefer. The use of accompaniment tracks is discouraged. Come dressed in comfortable attire with shoes appropriate for dancing. The show does not require actors with formal dance training, but the chor-eographer wants to see applicants perform a simple dance routine that will be taught that evening. The director encourages auditions by children who have been active in other local theaters; rehearsal schedule for youths will be adjusted to allow cast members to be able to participate in the various summer acting camps offered by other local theaters. “2REAL4U Drama Christian Show,SDRq directed by Alene Wilson-Harris. There is a general casting call for all ages and ethnicities, and also a call for a lead female actress from age 20 to 35 for a major character in the show. Interested parties should call 800-352-6449, ext. 707.
“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” director Michael Dempsey, Salem Community Theatre, 490 E. State St., Salem, auditions at 7 p.m. June 7 and 8, and callbacks at 7 p.m. June 11.Those auditioning should prepare a brief musical-theater song by, or in the style of, Stephen Sondheim. Bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. Actors are asked to not prepare movie, pop or rock-show songs, and please do not bring tracks. The Sondheim music is challenging, so choose a song that demonstrates your vocal training, range and stamina. “Sweeney Todd” requires minimal dancing and choreography. Performances will be at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays Oct. 30-Nov. 8. Rehearsals will begin the last week in August and are typically Sunday through Thursday in the evening.
