A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

May 5

Arrest: A traffic stop near state Route 170 and Western Reserve Road resulted in the arrest of 47-year-old Michael S. Lyons, no address listed, who was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.

May 6

Theft: An East Western Reserve Road woman reported a purse and several credit and debit cards stolen from her car.

BOARDMAN

May 7

Assault: An elderly township man told police a former friend had shoved him through a window during an argument between them at a Market Street motel. The accuser had slight redness to his head.

Theft: A $600 global-positioning-system unit was missing from a car in the 5800 block of South Avenue.

Theft/drugs: Alexander J. Rood of Yorktown Lane, Austintown, was charged with theft as well as possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia after a pair of pliers was stolen from Walmart. In addition, the 22-year-old Rood had five hypodermic syringes, two suspected crack-cocaine pipes and a spoon with burn marks common in drug use, police alleged.

Theft: A Campbell woman reported $95 and a debit card missing from her purse while at a Doral Drive big-box store.

Criminal damaging: A Prestwick Drive man reported someone with a landscaping company whom his neighbor had hired, cut down some of his bushes without permission.

Harassment: A Huntington Drive man said he received five such calls.

Criminal damaging: A man at Southern Park Mall saw that several pieces of stereo equipment had been damaged in his vehicle.

Theft: A woman discovered several items such as china, a desk, a TV and a sewing machine missing from her mother’s Wildwood Drive residence. The loss was estimated at $9,000.

Theft: Shane J. Van Nest, 19, of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, and a 16-year-old township girl were charged with stealing about $9 worth of fishing equipment from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

May 8

Theft: Danita B. Harris, 24, of Brookwood Road, Boardman, was charged in the theft of several pairs of shorts and other clothing items from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A Canfield woman noticed about $203 missing from her wallet after shopping at a Doral Drive big-box store.

Identity theft: A Doncaster Drive couple learned that someone without authorization had filed a joint state income-tax return with their personal information.

Drugs/weapon: A traffic stop near Market Street resulted in the arrest of 21-year-old Jalon J.V. Allen of East Midlothian Boulevard, Youngstown, on a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon and one misdemeanor count of drug abuse. A loaded .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun and two bottles of over-the-counter pills were found in a backpack, a report showed.

Theft: Police charged 61-year-old Thomas E. Olson with theft after alleging Olson, of Glenview Road, Canfield, had stolen about $27 worth of merchandise, including a light bulb, from Walmart.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 8000 block of Southern Boulevard was found with damage to its dashboard.

Theft: A man age 18 to 20 reportedly stole a $140 pair of sunglasses from Sunglass Hut in Southern Park Mall.

Arrest: Officers at a Glenwood Avenue gas station picked up 56-year-old Edward R. Griffin of Motor Inn Drive, Liberty, who was wanted on Trumbull County warrants charging him with a probation violation and failure to appear in court.

Theft: Several articles of clothing possibly valued at $1,200 were removed from PacSun, a retail clothing store in Southern Park Mall.

Theft by deception: A Waseka Lane woman told officers she estimated having lost about $80,000 over a three-year period. The latest incident was a caller claiming to need her bank-account information and asking her to transfer funds via a money order so as to set up an inheritance account, a police report showed.

Theft: A woman reported a semiautomatic pistol stolen from her home in the 7800 block of Walnut Street.

Criminal mischief: A 16-year-old township boy faced a criminal-mischief charge after someone in the 100 block of Roche Way had placed two pingpong balls in a vehicle’s gas cap and sprayed the car with plastic string.

Theft: Katie M. Grist, 29, of Oles Avenue, Boardman, was charged with taking 23 articles of children’s clothing valued at $564 from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.

Domestic violence: Police arrested 65-year-old Marta Ciminelli of Grimm Heights Avenue, Struthers, on a domestic-violence charge after an April 20 allegation that she had struck her elderly mother, who is a resident at a South Avenue long-term care facility.

Theft: Authorities charged Michael A. Klein, 22, of Oakview Avenue, Struthers, after alleging he had stolen two sets of wireless headsets from Walmart.

Fraud: A man told authorities he paid a contractor $1,523 to replace four windows to his Gertrude Avenue home, but that the contractor never finished the work.

Theft: An Austintown man reported a $300 iPhone stolen while at a Doral Drive big-box store.

Theft: Jami M. Lax, 39, of Jean Street, Youngstown, was charged with taking a bottle of pain medication and a can of air-conditioning refill material from Walmart.

Theft by deception: A Sheboygan, Wis., man who had responded to an online ad for an expensive diamond ring reported that he gave $3,800 to a man he met at Southern Park Mall who was selling the item before a gemologist informed the victim that the diamond was fake.

Theft: A Wolosyn Circle man told officers that $40 was missing from a $100 money-order check he had cashed.

Theft: Keith A. Poulton was charged with theft while at the Mahoning County jail. Poulton, 44, of Windjammer Drive, Columbiana, was accused of stealing 10 bags of mulch from Walmart.

May 9

Arrest: Authorities at the Mahoning County jail phone booked 57-year-old Michael Phillips of Mistletoe Avenue, Youngstown, on a theft charge related to an April 28 shoplifting situation in which several pairs of socks were stolen from Dollar General, 4996 Market St.

Attempted theft: A woman reportedly tried to steal roughly $17 worth of merchandise from Dollar General, 5953 South Ave., then fled in a maroon Buick vehicle.

Theft: Two $900 cellphones were stolen from T-Mobile, 457 Boardman-Poland Road.

Criminal damaging: Someone at Southern Park Mall intentionally scratched a vehicle’s driver’s-side door.

Theft: A driver’s license and a credit card were removed from a car in the 7400 block of West Boulevard.

Burglary: To a residence in the 900 block of Anderson Drive. A laptop computer, assorted jewelry, various bottles of wine and a cooler were taken, for a loss of $5,120.

Theft: Two women reportedly stole $234 worth of property, including jewelry, from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A Lockwood Boulevard woman accused her former boyfriend of stealing a $250 portable table saw from her.

Citation: Police near U.S. Route 224 and Interstate 680 pulled over and cited 71-year-old Charles F. Gill of Saratoga, Calif., on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

Theft: Police booked 23-year-old Tamika Croft of Oregon Trail, Boardman, after a $35 Cleveland Browns tank top was stolen from Touchdown Gifts in Southern Park Mall.

Theft: Christian M. Jones, 18, of North Bon Air Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with stealing roughly $92 worth of clothing from the J.C. Penney store. In addition, a 15-year-old Youngstown boy was accused of being part of the crime.

May 10

Aggravated menacing: A Nova Lane man reported another man threatened to harm the accuser regarding a child-custody situation.

Theft: A Youngstown man noticed an $85 paycheck missing while at a South Avenue catering business.

Theft: A man and a woman left Steak ‘n’ Shake, 6786 Applewood Blvd., without paying an $18 food bill.

Drugs: Authorities responding to a suspicious person at Macy’s in Southern Park Mall charged 22-year-old Alexander J. Rood of Yorktown Lane, Austintown, with attempted theft as well as possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia after alleging Rood had admitted having various drug-related items. Also, a surveillance camera showed him trying to cut a security cord from a $298 purse, a report stated.

Theft: Officers charged 27-year-old Devin E. Gout with theft after alleging Gout, of Cleveland Street, Salem, took a $47 iPhone case from Walmart.

Theft: Police took custody of Linda D. Boles, 35, and Cindy S. Schweiss, 55, who were wanted on charges of theft and complicity to theft, respectively. Boles and Schweiss, both of Owsley Street, Masury, were accused in the theft of $298 worth of merchandise April 18 from T.J. Maxx & More, 717 Boardman-Poland Road.
